Year 7
Unit 1: May the force be with you
In this unit, students will learn about unbalanced forces related to gravity. They will conduct scientific investigations and follow how to complete a fair test.
Unit 2: Get Classified
In this unit, students will learn about food webs, food chains and the classification of organisms. They will also investigate scientific data and analyse the patterns and trends in the data to identify relationships.
Unit 3: Separating Mixtures
In this unit, students will learn the techniques used to separate mixtures into to pure substances. They will conduct scientific investigations and follow how to complete a fair test.
Unit 4: It's just a phase
In this unit, students will learn about how the Earth, Sun and Moon affect each other to create phenomena such as Tides, Eclipses, Seasons and the Phases of the Moon.
Year 8
Unit 1: What's the matter?
In this unit, students will conduct experiments to learn about matter and the unique changes that can be made to different substances during reactions. They will investigate how some changes are at a physical level and others are at a chemical level.
Unit 2: Rock on!
In this unit, students will learn about the rock cycle and how it has impacted the Earth. Students will investigate the properties and processes of creating Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic rocks
Unit 3: Energiser
In this unit, students will learn about how energy transfers and transformations occur in a water wheel. They will also investigate the impacts of climate change on Pacific Island communities.
Unit 4: It's Cellfie time
In this unit, students will learn the important role that cells play in the human body and how they function in a body system. They will investigate a disease and examine how it is diagnosed, treated and cured.
Year 9
Unit 1: Change Agents
In this unit, students will learn about how the human body and the environment reacts to changes in their systems. Students will investigate Biological systems such as Ecosystems and Body Systems.
Unit 2: Hot or Cold
In this unit, students will learn about the structure of matter and how it naturally decays but also how it can react with matter to form new substances. Students will explore exothermic and endothermic reactions.
Unit 3: Ride the waves
In this unit, students will learn that energy can be a wave or a particle. Students will investigate the properties of energy related electricity and light.
Unit 4: Shake it off
In this unit, students will learn about global geological activity and how our Earth has and still is being shaped by them. Students will investigate tectonic plate movement, continental drift and how convection currents in magma enable the plates to move. They will also examine how earthquakes, tsunami's and volcanoes occur.
Year 10
Unit 1: Crash
In this unit, students will learn about Netwon's Laws of motion. They will use Newton's Laws to investigate a simulated car crash and explain how safety features can help the people in the crash.
Unit 2: It's in your genes
In this unit, students will learn about genetics, heredity and evolution. Students will explore the theory of evolution and natural selection. They will evaluate the validity of claims and make conclusions.
Unit 3: Don't overreact
In this unit, students will learn about the structure of the periodic table and why it is constructed the way it is. Students will investigate a variety chemical reactions to understand how the rate of reactions impact them.
Unit 4: We are all made of stars
In this unit, students will learn about the Big Bang Theory and describe trends in climate change. Students will learn that we are all made of stars and that what impact we are having on our world.
