Year 7 & 8 Visual Art
Unit 1: Animorphic
Artists often visually interpret their world imaginatively, combining elements of realism and fantasy. Students will study and practice ways of making artworks that reflect their imagination and creativity (with a focus on Surrealism). Their work will demonstrate an understanding of tools, techniques and materials, and explore the visual elements of line, colour, shape, texture and form in drawing and sculpture (Junk Art). Animals and metamorphic combinations of their features will be the stimulus for tasks produced in class.
Year 9 Art
Unit 1: Popped Art
This unit focuses on the concept of Popular Culture and it's representation in 2D/3D art forms such as sculpture and digital art. Through studying the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and carrying out a variety of making and responding tasks students will gain a deep understanding of how Popular culture has shaped and inspired artworks within a historical and a contemporary context.
Unit 2: Street Art
The unit focuses on the concept of Street art. Students analyse and evaluate the work of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Reko Rennie, and Fintan Magee to inform their work. They learn to experiment and manipulate 2D media to represent their ideas. Students develop a variety of making and responding tasks to gain understanding of how Popular culture and the surf/skate sub-culture has shaped and inspired artworks within an historical and contemporary context.
Year 10 Art
Unit 1: Land, Sky and Sea
This unit focuses on the concept of printmaking and its connection to time, place and culture. Students analyse and evaluate the work of traditional woodcut carvings, as well was Kathe Kollwitz, Brian Robinson and Sandra Pearce to inform their work.
Students will develop a variety of making and responding tasks to gain understanding of how printmaking has shaped and inspired artworks within a historical and contemporary context.
Unit 2: Narratives
This unit focuses on the concept of narratives through painting. Students analyse and evaluate the works of Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Vincent Van Gogh, Picasso and Jackson Pollock to inform their work. They will learn to experiment with painting materials, techniques and processes.
Students will develop a variety of responding and making tasks to gain understanding of how painting has shaped and inspired artworks within a historical and contemporary context.
Unit 3: Activist Art
This unit focuses on the concept of social commentary and its representation in 3D art forms and display. Students analyse the works of Ancient Greek and Roman sculptures, Ai Wei Wei, Ah Xian, Patricia Piccinni, and Matej Andraz Vogrincic to inform their work. They will learn to experiment with ceramic and mixed media sculpture forms as well as display and installation.
Students will develop a variety of responding and making tasks to gain a deep understanding of how social commentary and display has shaped and inspired artworks within a historical and contemporary context.
